GEORGETOWN (WCSC) - The Department of Veterans Affairs, South Carolina Department of Employment and Workforce, Georgetown County Veterans Affairs Office and Ralph H. Johnson VAMC will partner together to host an Informational/Benefits briefing. 

The Mobile Vet Center will be held Wednesday, May 23, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at SC Works Georgetown, 2704 Highmarket Street, Georgetown, South Carolina.

Pawleys Island man struck by lightning, hospitalized

PAWLEYS ISLAND, SC (WMBF) - A man was taken to the hospital after being struck by lightning during a severe thunderstorm in Georgetown County on Tuesday.

Midway Fire Department Corporal Bob Beebe said the man was struck while he working in his back yard in the 300 block of Fieldgate Circle.  The man told rescue responders the lightning bolt struck the tree first, before entering through his head and exiting through his feet.

Beebe said the victim was alert and aware while en route to Waccamaw Community Hospital for treatment.  The victim was, however, complaining of tingling in his feet.

3 sought after home invasion, kidnapping in Georgetown

GEORGETOWN, SC (WCSC)- Investigators are asking for the public's help identifying three masked men after a home invasion and kidnapping in Georgetown on Monday.

Georgetown County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a home on Amelia Drive, off Highmarket Street, just before 3 a.m. after receiving reports of an invasion.

Investigators say the victim was awakened by one suspect who entered the bedroom. The victim was then forced with what appeared to be a handgun into the living room where two other victims were. All three victims were then tied up. The suspects demanded money and made off with an undisclosed amount.

Deputies say the suspects then kidnapped one of the victims and their vehicle and drove to a home on Foxfire Court off of Mercer Avenue. The kidnapped victim was then left tied up at a home and the suspects switched got into a different vehicle and fled the scene in an unknown direction.

Morning clouds have broken up enough to let some sunshine through across much of the coast. Temperatures were already in the low 70s and with a south breeze and some sun, we should have no problem hitting the lower 80s by this afternoon. Showers and storms are in the forecast today and could really pop up at any time. We expect the best coverage across the region later this afternoon into the evening as the sun heats us up. Rain chances are around 60% into the overnight hours. Keep an umbrella handy...just in case!

Man sought after 75-year-old severely beaten in Georgetown

GEORGETOWN, SC (WCSC)- Police are looking for a person of interest after a 75-year-old man was severely beaten during a robbery at his Georgetown home last week.

Georgetown Police Department investigators are looking for Andrew James Brown, a man seen at the home on Gilbert Street just before the assault occurred on May 4.

Officers responded to the scene just after 9 p.m. to find the victim laying in his living room suffering from severe swelling to both eyes, fractures to his neck vertebrae, a broken collar bone, and bleeding on his brain.

The victim, who police say is a war veteran, was taken to MUSC for treatment of his injuries.  The victim told officers two men assaulted him.

Investigators say Brown, the person of interest, has several addresses within the city limits of Georgetown, Andrews and in the county.

Teens arrested, suspect sought for vandalism, thefts at marina

MURRELLS INLET, SC (WCSC)- Two teens have been charged and investigators are looking for a third suspect after a series of vandalism and larcenies at a Murrells Inlet marina.

Georgetown County Sheriff's Office investigators say 18-year-old Justin Abbott and a 14-year-old were captured on video stealing from and damaging boats at the Crazy Sister Marina on April 23 and April 24.

Investigators say Abbott and the juvenile entered several boats and stole items, as well as spraying boats and another vehicle with a fire extinguisher.

Abbott and the juvenile were both charged with trespassing, petit larceny, malicious injury to personal property, and burglary second Degree.

Deputies are looking for a third suspect, described as a white female named "Sky."  Investigators believe she resides in Conway.
