With Mother's Day set for Sunday, May 12, now is your chance to show the community just how special your mother is!

Georgetown couple's son completes infantry training

GEORGETOWN (WCSC) - Army National Guard Pvt. Trenton A. Bromell has graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga.

During the nine weeks of training, the soldier received training in drill and ceremonies, weapons, map reading, tactics, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, and Army history, core values and traditions. Additional training included development of basic combat skills and battlefield operations and tactics, and experiencing use of various weapons and weapons defenses available to the infantry crewman.

Bromell is the son of Armtria Bromell of Exodus Drive, Georgetown.

He is a 2009 graduate of Carvers Bay High School, Hemingway.

Sheriff recognizes county employees at awards ceremony

GEORGETOWN COUNTY (WCSC) - Last month, Sheriff A. Lane Cribb recognized employees in the three departments of the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office: central communications, the detention center, and the sheriff’s office at the Annual Awards Ceremony.

The award recipients were nominated by their supervisors to receive an award for their outstanding job performance.

Berkeley Co. school board member elected to state board

Berkeley County school board member Doug Cooper was elected to the South Carolina School Boards Association (SCSBA) Board of Directors as the Region 3 Director during the association’s annual business meeting held on Dec. 3.

The annual business meeting, which was held during the association’s Legislative Advocacy Conference, included voting delegates from most of the state’s 83 school boards. In addition to the election of association officers, delegates adopted resolutions that will guide the association during the 2012 legislative session.

As the region director, he will represent school boards in Berkeley and Georgetown counties.

Sheriff's deputies deliver food baskets to families in need

For the third year in a row, the Georgetown County Sheriff's Office with the Murrells Inlet Elks Lodge #2797 delivered Thanksgiving Food Baskets to families in need on Monday, Nov. 21.

The Murrells Inlet Elks Lodge delivered a complete turkey dinner that included at least one turkey and all of the fixings for a Thanksgiving feast to the sheriff's office.  The sheriff's deputies organized and delivered those meals to families identified by the Georgetown County School District.

"We are honored to serve our less fortunate residents in their time of need during the holidays," Sheriff A. Lane Cribb said.  

The school district identified 28 families in need this Thanksgiving.
