Berkeley Co. school board member elected to state board | People
Berkeley County school board member Doug Cooper was elected to the South Carolina School Boards Association (SCSBA) Board of Directors as the Region 3 Director during the association’s annual business meeting held on Dec. 3.
The annual business meeting, which was held during the association’s Legislative Advocacy Conference, included voting delegates from most of the state’s 83 school boards. In addition to the election of association officers, delegates adopted resolutions that will guide the association during the 2012 legislative session.
As the region director, he will represent school boards in Berkeley and Georgetown counties.
Cooper has served on the Berkeley County board since 2008. He has served as chairman and been an active legislative advocate for public schools at the state level. He has been an active participant of the association’s 2DAC (Two Days At the Capitol) education lobbying event and testified to Senate Education Subcommittee on education legislation.
Cooper is the General Manager of the McNaughton-McKay Electric Company where he has worked for 16 years. He and his wife, Jo, have two daughters.
