Reading postponed, but comment will be heard on horses on beach

Georgetown County Council was expected to have a first reading of a proposal to ban horses from county beaches Tuesday night, but that reading has been postponed to allow council members more time to gather information on the issue.  That reading is now scheduled for November 9.

The council will, however, listen to public comment on the issue at its October 26 meeting.  At issue is a proposed year-round ban on horseback riding on Georgetown County beaches.  Currently, the horses are banned in Spring and Summer.  The issue came up after complaints about manure on the beach and horses trampling dunes.
